Who is Jesus?

For a long time I’ve heard both Christians and non-Christians ask: “who is Jesus?” And depending on who you ask you may get a very different answer. That is because He shows up differently in each of our lives and speaks to us in special ways. In fact, if we try to grasp who He is and what His purpose is in our lives it may take an entire lifetime to understand. But luckily, there are some fundamental truths we must realize as we walk-by-faith and experience His presence in our daily lives.

A great teacher

Without a doubt, life is challenging, especially when we decide to follow Jesus and learn from Him. Being a believer in Jesus is not often a popular choice and those who pursue a lifestyle that brings Him honor are usually misunderstood. That is because God’s ways are not our ways. He calls us to live a life of purity because His spirit lives inside of us. For that reason, the way we live our lives will often appear counter-cultural and sometimes completely out of sync with the rest of society. But the rewards of following Jesus will always outweigh the temporary distractions that seem so important to everyone else.

During the ministry of Jesus, He would often say how each of us are like sheep who get lost and go astray. It is unusual that each of us as human beings fits into this example so perfectly since we all can become so lost spiritually and relationally. It is so easy to follow the status quo of our generation and lose sight of the greatest treasure of all. But thankfully, Jesus also said that He is our Shepard, He is there to help us in our time of need, even when it’s our fault! He will not leave us or forsake us. That was the plan from the very beginning. (Check out the gospel of John in the new testament).
