When I was a child, I vividly recall turning on my radio one night and tuned into a Classical music station. I remember the sound grabbed my attention and left my finger on the dial not wanting to change it. I became enchanted by the complex melody and felt that somehow it was a part of me. At that age I had an understanding of what ‘cool’ was and I distinctively knew this wasn’t the popular choice, yet somehow the music touched my soul and I recognized its significance; I gladly embraced adding this new genre to my list, not once have I felt ashamed of listening to it, only joy. And now, over 40+ years later I hope others will learn to enjoy classical music as I have.
I was forever changed
Fast forward a few decades when I had the opportunity to attend a live orchestra that played Bach, Vivaldi, Debussy, and Strauss. I was in utter amazement, as I listened to the music, I have never been so focused, so at peace. I truly felt there is nowhere else in the world I’d rather be!
It’s time to add some new music to your playlist
So perhaps you’re reading this and haven’t felt that way about classical music, I get it, there are some styles I don’t particularly care for myself. But there are so many different categories to explore and many different instruments you may enjoy listening to. I encourage you to do a little search and find something that really resonates with you and just take it from there. Learn about the composers and their interesting lives, and how difficult I can be to write music and perhaps your appreciation may begin to grow.
There are many benefits
The psychological and health benefits you’ll receive from listening to classical music are endless, especially when you’re stuck in traffic, and you purposefully focus on the music. It can be a game-changer. Or picture yourself relaxing by the fireplace with a glass of wine and some of your favorite classical music… Game-changer!
You can find it almost everywhere
There are many ways to listen to classical music: FM/AM radio, Sirius XM, a music app like Pandora, and the free to rent CDs available at your local library.
I really hope you’ll learn to appreciate classical music; each performance is a masterpiece that tells a story, and those stories are beautiful!
Here’s a few of my favorites.
Enjoy!
