The importance of fathers

When a boy or girl grows up without a father, the long-term negative effects can be huge, ranging from relational instability and a lack of self-control. It can be even worse for a child whose father is not capable of being a provider or a loving caretaker. No doubt life can be challenging for all of us, especially for those of us who didn’t plan to have children. For most parents, it’s evident they did the best they could based on what was demonstrated to them. There are overwhelming statics about the effects of absent fathers, specifically relating to incarceration. The sad thing is that these types of behaviors are frequently repeated every generation and the importance of fathers is not prioritized. 

The legacy of a father

So now where do you find yourself in relation to this topic? If you’re a father you have the ability to leave a legacy for your children. You can change the whole course of their life and many generations after them if you don’t give up. You “can” learn what it takes to be a phenomenal father. And yes, it is possible!

The impact of a father figure 

Or perhaps you have the ability to spend time with someone who’s had a rough childhood; you can encourage them to seek professional help and learn to grow and mature from the experience and not let it ruin the rest of their life. No matter which end of the spectrum you find yourself today, it’s very possible that you can plant a seed of hope in someone who dreams of having a normal life.

A child needs a role model 

A while ago I saw this great video of Mike Tyson, prior to watching this he was just someone I admired as an amazing boxer with limitless potential. I really had no idea what fueled his success. He was interviewed after a fight and was asked what motivates him when he gets into the ring. He said he thinks of his father and how much he hates him, he said he takes out all of that hatred onto his opponents! This is certainly a prime example of someone who was hurt by their father. Just imagine how Mike’s life would have turned out if his father didn’t abandon him. Sadly, there are countless stories like this, they express the great importance of having a father involved in a child’s life.  

The impact you can make 

The future of your children depend on you. They’re listening and watching everything you do. Being a parent is not easy but having the right attitude and the tools you need will help you stay on course, find healing from personal baggage, and become a wonderful father that every child wishes for!
