For many years I’ve tried all kinds of facial exfoliators. Some of these were very expensive and dried out my skin, while others were moderately priced but too abrasive or so mild I didn’t even notice a difference. I was frustrated and decided to use only a washcloth when I cleaned my face, I figured it would provide gentle exfoliation with no additional cost but after awhile I felt that my skin did not have that smooth feeling like it once had.
The skincare journey
Prior to being slightly obsessed with skincare I had very bad acne when I was a teenager. I tried so many products, treatments, and medications. There were multiple visits to the dermatologist and aesthetician, and I’ve had microdermabrasion countless times. So, you could say I learned a thing or two about skin care.
A wonderful discovery
I recently discovered a wonderful home remedy-style of performing a facial with awesome results for a fraction of the price. I’ve been using baking soda. It’s safe, gentle, and super cheap; I highly recommend it. So far I saved hundreds of dollars on facial exfoliators! And since I already shared with you my skincare journey, you can already image how careful and picky I am with my skincare products so this one is quite the success story.
Here what I recommend:
Exfoliation for men
When I’m finished shaving my face, I’ll grab a scoop full of baking soda then hop in the shower. When I’m in the shower I rinse my face then slowly apply and massage the baking soda all over my face, neck, and ears, (especially behind my ears). After a few minutes I’ll rinse it all off then proceed to wash my face with soap as usual. After the shower I make sure to apply adequate moisturizer. And that’s it! It’s such a simple process with amazing results. I’ll do this typically twice per week, I don’t recommend doing it more than that.
Exfoliation for women
The process is the same, but you can apply it to your entire body, especially your hands and feet, they’ll be super soft!
Pro tip: Make sure to use only “pure” baking soda. There is another baking soda product available that is used for deodorizing, but it is too coarse. After exfoliating, avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours. For easy storage, transfer the baking soda into a heavy duty reusable bag and leave the scoop in it. It’s a great way to simplify the process for weekly use.
