All of us are living for something. Some focus on building careers, raising families, or acquiring material success. While those pursuits aren’t wrong, they can easily become distractions from something greater… the mission of God. In the book of Acts, we witness Paul’s radical transformation. After encountering Jesus, he spends the rest of his life proclaiming the gospel. To Paul, God’s grace was so overwhelming that nothing else in life compared to the mission of God.
Finishing the Race with Purpose
Paul’s singular focus was to complete the task God gave him. As he said in Acts 20:24:
“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me, the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” (NIV)
Paul’s words remind us that every believer has a race to run and a calling to fulfill. The mission of God: sharing His grace and truth with others was Paul’s highest priority. It can be ours, too.
The Mission of God in Everyday Life
Living on mission doesn’t mean abandoning your family or career. In fact, those areas are often the best places to live out the mission of God. We can parent in ways that reflect God’s love and raise children who know Him. We can be bold in sharing faith in the workplace, serve in our communities, and live lives marked by grace and truth.
