All around us, nature reveals powerful truths about God. Whether it’s the vastness of the sky or the beauty of a blooming flower, learning about God through nature is one way He speaks to us. Psalm 19:1 declares, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God.” And Romans 1:20 reminds us that God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen through what He has made.
General Revelation: God Revealed in Nature
Theologians call this kind of understanding General Revelation. It’s the knowledge of God that is available to everyone through creation. From the intricacies of the human body to the order of the stars, the natural world points to a Creator who is powerful, intentional, and good.
However, there’s more to know. Special Revelation refers to what God has revealed specifically through His Word and His Son, Jesus Christ. Through Scripture, we learn about salvation, God’s character, and His eternal plan.
A Promise of Universal Knowledge
Habakkuk 2:14 provides a glimpse of what’s to come: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” This was proclaimed during a time of hardship for Israel, yet God gave hope, pointing toward a future when His glory will be known by all.
Today, through the work of the Holy Spirit and the global Church, we catch glimpses of that glory. But one day, when Jesus returns, everyone will see Him as King. Until then, we have the responsibility to share the good news of salvation with others while there’s still time.
Sharing the Glory of God Today
As believers, we are called to seek God through His Word and to live with a constant awareness of His presence. We should also be intentional about sharing that knowledge. Look at nature, let it stir your awe, and let that awe compel you to talk to others about the Creator behind it all.
Today, take a moment to reflect on how you’re learning about God through nature and how you can share that knowledge with someone else.
