When I was a child, I was taught how to pray to God and ask Him for help when needed. Throughout my life, I can recall so many times when I prayed to God for help and He showed up for me. Sometimes it was simple and sometimes it was significant. Nevertheless, I prayed and received an answer. One of those times will always stand out to me.

Does God still perform miracles today?

Yes, many people continue to experience answered prayers and divine intervention in their lives. Faith, prayer, and belief play a powerful role.

A Teenager’s Prayer in a Moment of Crisis

I was sixteen years old and had just finished rebuilding the carburetor on my classic muscle car. At that time, I was becoming a proficient mechanic, but I still had much to learn.

As soon as I assembled everything and installed the carburetor onto the engine, I hopped back into my car and hoped that it would start. When I turned the key, the engine started, sounded good, and ran smoothly. I was very proud of myself.

The Unexpected Blaze

But all of a sudden, I was filled with great panic at what I saw. Through the windshield, I could partially see the engine bay, and what caught my eye was a fire that broke out.

I immediately turned off the engine and quickly got to the front of my car as a large blaze began to consume the top half of my engine.

A Desperate Attempt to Save My Car

Luckily, behind me was a garden hose, so I grabbed it and began to spray down my engine. I was frantic as I thought about the potential damage the fire was causing and how it could get out of hand quickly.

Despite spraying so much water, the fire would not go out. It didn’t even affect it at all. Meanwhile, just inches away from my car was my father’s car—a classic Corvette, highly flammable because it’s mostly made of fiberglass. Next to his car was my neighbor’s car, and behind all of our cars were our homes. I became even more panicked knowing how devastating this fire could be if I didn’t get it under control.

Turning to Faith When All Else Failed

After one minute of spraying it with water and seeing that the fire was still burning hot, I just gave up and cried out, “Jesus help!” And suddenly, the fire went out.

My heart was racing, I was still holding the hose, and with excitement and a very nervous heartbeat, I paused and thanked God.

Witnessing a Miracle

I turned to put the hose away, preparing myself for all the damage I would see and how I was going to come up with the money to pay for it—plus the embarrassment of telling my dad what happened and the fear that he might not allow me to work on my car anymore.

But as I turned to look at my engine bay, there was no evidence of a fire at all. Nothing. Not one piece of plastic was melted, nothing was discolored from the heat—nothing at all. And this fire blazed for a while.

This was nothing but a miracle from God. If He can do something this simple for me, I know He can do even greater things for you. Just believe in Him, and soon your faith will become reality.
